UNBOUND is a new exhibition by artist Monu Sharma, presented by Shades Creative Gallery, exploring what happens when paper moves beyond the conventional boundaries of a framed artwork.

Instead of treating paper as a passive surface, Sharma transforms it into an active space for marks, materials, movement, colour and experimentation. Through acrylic, ink, oil

pastel, found-object impressions, layering, repetition and spontaneous gestures, everyday materials become instruments for creating an evolving visual language.

The exhibition extends the artwork into the gallery itself. Long paper scrolls hang freely from the ceiling, sheets overlap and fold, surfaces carry repeated impressions, and individual works come together as larger spatial compositions.

WHEN PAPER BECOMES SPACE

At the heart of UNBOUND is an interest in the trace.

A ring, textured surface, everyday object, brush, tool or accidental gesture can leave behind a mark. That mark becomes evidence of an action—a moment of pressure, movement, repetition or chance.

Sharma’s works capture these traces and build upon them through layers of colour, texture and gesture.

The object is not the artwork.
The mark it leaves behind is.

FROM DESIGN TO EXPERIMENTATION

With a background in design, Sharma approaches the artwork with an awareness of line, proportion, rhythm, structure and movement, while allowing the materials themselves to introduce unpredictability.

The resulting works sit between drawing, painting, design and installation.

Rather than presenting a single fixed visual language, UNBOUND brings together different approaches to making:

• Found-object impressions
• Acrylic and ink
• Oil-pastel gestures
• Repeated marks and patterns
• Layered surfaces
• Experimental colour fields
• Long-form paper works
• Suspended and spatial compositions
• Chance and controlled intervention

THE EXHIBITION EXPERIENCE

Visitors encounter the works not simply as paintings on a wall, but as an environment.

Suspended paper creates changing views as one moves through the gallery. Light passes across translucent and textured surfaces. Shadows become part of the installation. Rolled, folded and hanging sheets introduce movement and a sense of incompleteness.

The exhibition invites the viewer to look closely at the process behind the artwork—the marks, overlaps, interruptions, repetitions and traces that reveal how each work came into being.

ART FOR COLLECTORS & INTERIORS

UNBOUND also explores the relationship between contemporary art and architectural space.

The works are conceived at different scales and can be experienced as individual artworks or as part of larger interior compositions. Their material character and strong graphic language make them suitable for private residences, contemporary homes, hospitality spaces, offices and curated architectural interiors.

Original artworks from the exhibition will be available for acquisition.

Architects, interior designers, collectors and art enthusiasts are invited to visit the gallery and experience the collection in person.
